No Dumb Fucks! What does this mean? This sign is not a statement about intelligence — it is a statement about standards.

My “No Dumb Fucks” sign, frames ‘Christ on the Cross’ painted 1510-35 by Heronimus Bosch, as a ”calm center” surrounded by chaotic, animalistic figures, acting as a ”grotesque theater”. Bosch’s masterpiece mirrors modern-day social hysteria and digital distraction- the endless recycling of noise that is passing for conversation.

Therefore, this sign is a symbol of warning, and rejection, of the ‘Unskilled and Unaware’- individuals with limited knowledge who overestimate their competence, and feel contempt for expertise; a well-studied psychological phenomenon often explained by the Dunning-Kruger effect. “No Dumb Fucks” draws a boundary around the quality of thought we are allowing into our environments, our work, and our culture. It rejects the drift towards confirmation bias (watch Tim Minchin’s hilarious song) and second-hand thinking towards universal apathy and moral degradation…

My life has been a constant fight against others who sweep truth under the carpet. I have found my way to Scientific Method and Critical Thinking which is the way to truth, law and being right- and happy. Because, without navigating your life truthfully and purposefully, Life Has No Meaning (now watch Tim Minchin’s UWA Address).

In my practice, working across art, neuroscience, and environmental design, I see every day how the brain responds to clarity — to concepts that are intentional, legible, and meaningful. When design thinking is weak, environments can create confusion. When ideas are not deep rooted, the fruits of labours wither and waste. When scientific language loses it’s accuracy, trust is lost. Art and science both rely on disciplined thinking that ask questions- which forms expertise. Art makes meaning visible and helps us to make sense of the world. Science tests it. Both require deep attention, responsibility, and a commitment to truth. Without that we- Humanity, don’t just lose quality — we lose our way.

This matters far beyond theory. For instance, in health and aged care environments, where people are struggling to navigate their way, the difference between clarity and confusion is not abstract — it is lived. The systems we create must support orientation, dignity, and calm instead of thoughtless chaos. That requires us to be deliberate about what we put into the world.

So, “No Dumb Fucks” is a call to raise the bar.
To think before speaking.
To create your fruits with intent.
To contribute something of value.
Not everything needs to be said.
But what is said should matter.
